Exploring Forces

This term in science, our middle school learners have been exploring the world of forces. Each week, they have taken part in fun, hands on lessons in the science room with fascinating experiments, videos, and group discussions.

Middle School have learned about gravity, magnetism, friction, and motion. One of the favourite activities was testing magnetic poles. Learners were excited to see how magnets can both attract and push away from each other. They were even more surprised to learn that Earth acts like a giant magnet!

A highlight was the Pointing North experiment. We used two needle-magnets to find out how Earth pulls on magnets. By rubbing the needles in one direction on a magnet, we turned them into temporary magnets. Then we checked which end pointed north by using a compass.

These science lessons have not only taught us about forces, but they have also helped learners work together, ask questions, and solve problems. We’re excited for more experiments as we keep learning about how forces shape our world!
