Maori Language Week took place from September 15 to 19, 2025, and everyone was actively engaged in exploring various elements of Maori culture. Students delved into Maori Myths and Legends, immersing themselves in rich narratives that reflect the heritage and beliefs of the Maori people. They expanded their vocabulary by learning new words and phrases essential to understanding the language.
In visual arts, they examined symmetry, appreciating its significance in Maori craftsmanship and design. The week also featured the recitation of karakia, or prayers, which are integral to Maori spirituality, alongside the singing of waiata, traditional songs that celebrate community and identity.
This immersive experience offered a wonderful opportunity for students to appreciate and respect all facets of Maori culture, enriching their learning across various subjects.
