Sprints at Howick Domain

Owairoa School held their sprint heats and finals at the Howick Domain on Monday 1st September. After a very blustery and wet weekend, it was touch and go if it would go ahead. Although the wind persisted, thankfully the rain stayed away. Teachers and school staff are essential for successful athletics events. Mr Basson worked tirelessly on setting up the course and a big thank you to Mr Basson and all the other teachers who were supervising on the wind swept Domain.

Athletics events encourage broad student involvement. We had students from multiple year levels compete in age-appropriate categories (year 3’s – year 6’s). By having this event we promote inclusivity by welcoming all skill levels, actively pursuing participation which teaches valuable lessons about effort and sportsmanship. Also, this event will create an awesome school memory for those who participated.

We are incredibly proud of all our Year 3-6 students who participated in the sprint events. It was wonderful to see so many eager participants who demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and manners throughout the competition. Whether celebrating victories or accepting defeats, our students showed maturity and respect for their fellow competitors.

The enthusiasm and positive attitudes displayed by our students truly reflect the values we cherish at Owairoa School. Their behavior on the day demonstrates why we have such a strong reputation for sportsmanship and community spirit.
