Monday 9th February marked a special milestone for our Junior School learners at Owairoa Primary. The classrooms were bubbling with excitement as children arrived ready to meet their new teachers, reconnect with friends, and begin another year of learning. For more than 26 students, the day was even more memorable as it was their very first day of school.
This year, we begin with six Year 1 classes and five Year 2 classes, organised into three Junior teams.
Each team is guided by an experienced and dedicated Team Leader:
- Miss Tracey Haugh (Team 1A)
- Mrs Michelle Geddes (Team 1B)
- Mr Alex Cornea (Team 2)
It has been wonderful to see how quickly students have settled into their new classrooms. The first weeks of school are all about building strong relationships, learning classroom routines, and creating a warm, positive environment where every child feels safe and ready to learn. Making friends, working together, and understanding expectations are key features of our classroom programmes.
Term 1 is shaping up to be full of rich learning experiences. All Junior students will take part in weekly sessions of swimming, science, library, and sport. Throughout the year, they will also enjoy specialist lessons in Music, Visual Art, and Digital Technology in our Digital Dream Lab. Keep an eye out for the Term 1 edition of the Junior School Journal, which will share more about what’s ahead for our learners.
Our Junior School team is excited to partner with you and your whānau throughout the year. We are committed to ensuring your child’s start to school is positive, supported, and full of discovery. We wish all our Owairoa children and their families a wonderful 2026.
