Tuning into Music

This term, our junior school students have started their music journey with our specialist teacher, Mrs. Won. From the very first session, the music room has been filled with laughter, rhythm, and song as the children dive into new and exciting musical experiences.

This week, students began learning a special Mother’s Day song titled “I Love My Mummy.” With lyrics full of love and gratitude, the song is part of a sweet surprise the children are preparing for Mother’s Day. To accompany the song, they also started crafting unique musical cards featuring the lyrics—each one designed to be a heartfelt gift from the students to their mums.

In addition to singing, Mrs. Won introduced the students to rhythm-based activities where they explored expressing different “mum moods” using percussion instruments. The lessons focus on singing, movement and exploring with instruments. The children were encouraged to think creatively about the sounds mums might make—some soft and gentle, others bold, funny, or even a bit grumpy!

It’s been a fantastic start to Term 2 in the music room. Mrs. Won shared how delighted she was to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic. With just 30 minutes each week, there’s still much more to explore, and we can’t wait to see (and hear!) what the children create next. Stay tuned for more musical moments as the term continues!
