The Senior School has been celebrating Samoan Language Week through a variety of learning experiences that help students to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of Samoan culture and traditions.
In M16, students have been exploring traditional Siapo patterns and their cultural significance. They have been practising their designs, which will later be incorporated into an art piece. This learning has encouraged creativity while introducing students to an important Samoan art form.
Students in M15 have been creating turtle-inspired artwork as part of their celebration of Samoan Language Week. Through this activity, they have been learning about cultural symbols and expressing their understanding through art.
Meanwhile, M14 students have been learning about the significance of Samoan Language Week and why it is important to celebrate and preserve Samoan language, culture, and identity. Through class discussions and activities, they have developed a greater appreciation for the contributions of Samoan people to New Zealand society.
Samoan Language Week has provided valuable opportunities for students to learn about and celebrate Samoan culture. These experiences help foster respect, cultural understanding, and an appreciation of the diverse communities that make up our school and wider community.
