Celebrating Queen’s Birthday Weekend

By May 29, 2020October 9th, 2020No Comments

Parent Class this week has been focussing on the Queen’s Birthday Weekend holiday and its significance to New Zealand. We have previously looked at the historical relationship between Britain and New Zealand and the current connections between the two countries.

This week we have discussed what New Zealanders typically like to do on a long weekend and considered what may change this year with the Covid-19 virus. We also looked at the Queen’s Birthday Honours citations.

After looking at possible attractions to visit within Auckland, the parents shared their weekend plans with the group.

The focus of Thursday’s Cooking class was making traditional English food which could be served as a high tea.  Out came the lace tablecloth, fancy bone china teacups and cake stands to complete the experience, which the parents enjoyed very much.
