It’s Coming Home…

The England men’s football team may have left a sour taste in the mouths of many over the school holidays, but that certainly wasn’t the case when the Owairoa boys’ team visited William Green Domain during the first week of Term 3.

Despite only having a handful of training sessions under their belts, the Year 5 and 6 students made tournament football look like a walk in the park. A cagey game requiring steely nerve and a plethora of grit was met by the experimental starting nine, as they tackled a solid Macleans team first up. Neither squad gave the other an inch and they shared the spoils in a technical 0-0 draw.

With correct player position now apparent, the boys took it to Maraetai Beach from the first whistle.

The Owairoa lions certainly roared with goals from Deacon Moore, Hudson Shorey and a hat trick from super striker and player of the day, Leo Taka, in what ended up being a 5-1 dismantling of the Pohutukawa Coast outfit.

With four points in the bag and sitting pretty in the table, the boys are looking forward to their next set of fixtures on August 18th.
