Lava Landmarks

By May 23, 2022No Comments

In Term Two students across Year 4 have enjoyed studying the formation of rocks, in science. This week, during ISTEAM, G4 explored the different parts of an active and dormant volcano. They learned that in Auckland volcanoes make up some of our local visible landmarks.

One of those is Ōhuiarangi or Pigeon Mountain as it is more commonly known. Although no longer active, students were delighted to think they had walked, or mountain biked upon its 55 m high volcanic cone.

Mr Howard encouraged the students to put their knowledge to the test and recreate volcanic cones using recycled containers, paper mache and strips of plaster bandage. The students were delighted with the result. Let the volcanic eruptions begin!
