What a great day we had for our middle school’s Commonwealth Games Day!
We started the day with an opening parade, where each year level represented a different Commonwealth country. It was lovely seeing the learners getting into the spirit of the day and proudly showing off each of the countries. We then had our special torch-lighting ceremony, which officially kicked off the day’s events.
We were also very lucky to have a special guest, Bruce Kendall, join us for the opening ceremony. Bruce shared a speech about his experiences competing at the Commonwealth Games and gave the learners an insight into what it was like to be part of such a huge sporting event. It was a fantastic opportunity for our learners to hear from someone who has experienced the Commonwealth Games firsthand.
After that, it was time to get moving! Learners worked in teams and took part in a range of fun games and challenges around the school. There was lots of running, cheering, teamwork and, of course, plenty of laughs along the way. It was fantastic to see learners encouraging each other and giving everything a go.
We finished the day back in our classrooms with some fun Commonwealth Game themed activities. It was a great chance to relax, have some fun and celebrate everything we had enjoyed throughout the day.
It was such a fun filled day and a wonderful opportunity for our learners to show teamwork, sportsmanship and school spirit!
