We Think Sailing is Knot Too Shabby

Our incredibly lucky learners from the Senior school were fortunate enough to get out on the water and participate in the BBYC Junior Sailing Programme.

On a sunny Thursday morning the students in Room 24 arrived at school early primed and ready for a full day on the water! Excitement was buzzing as we rode the bus to Bucklands Beach to see 15 Optimist dinghies all rigged up and ready to go. After a warmup and a short lesson on how to sail the boats, the students paired up, jumped in, and sailed away!

Every single one of our young sailors were enthusiastic and quickly picked up the knowledge to sail successfully around buoys. By the time the session came to an end they were enjoying racing each other and showing off their new skills to the onlookers on the shore.

Following this, we were fortunate enough to spend some time in the yacht club learning how to tie knots, use pulley’s and successfully identify different parts of the boats and sails.

We would like to thank the volunteers from the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club for giving up their time and teaching us to sail safely on the water.
